They are a group of small islands and uninhabited tropical coral reefs in the Coral Sea, northwest of Australia, (coordinates 18°N, 152°E). The islands are spread over an area of around one million km2, but with an emerged area of only 8 km2, the most important being the Willis islets. On the main of these islets there is a meteorological station whose population is temporary.
